Guild Competition!
This week I’m starting on a challenge that is through one of my Quilt Guilds. Their challenge is to choose an envelope that had two crayons (I did not know what colors I was choosing). Create a quilt using these two colors and add up to four more colors.
I received BLUE and BLUE/GREEN.
I came up with drawing rings on white fabric, add designs in the rings, painting the fabric with the colors.
And the following photos are my process thus far. Quilting will begin tomorrow. It’s due December 4 at our Christmas party.

Teaching Engagements
This week is a busy and exciting one for me!
Monday, April 3, I will be holding my last class for a very successful T-shirt quilt class at Sweet Home School’s Community Education. Â I will be doing more classes, and will post when those are!!
Tuesday, April 4, at 6:30pm I will be doing a hands-on presentation on The Meaning of Color at the Newman Center on Skinnerville Road. Â I’ll be talking about how colors effect our mood, spiritual meaning of colors, and bible references of the colors. We will be painting, so if you come, please wear a smock.
Wednesday, April 5, 6:30pm I will be at the Twin City Quilt Guild presenting my Trunk Show.  I am excited to tell my quilt journey and share my quilts!

Colors

s an artist, I work with different colors, hues, and shades to bring my art to life.
A couple of weeks ago, I was asked to do an art presentation for my church. Â They are doing a lenten series on Spirit, Health, & Healing. Â I had no other guidance as to what was expected other than some sort of artsy thing. Â Of course, I said YES with absolutely no idea of what I was going to do or even talk about!
Within 1-1/2 weeks of constant meditating on this, I came up with the puzzle pieces one by one. Â It started with how color effects our emotions and mood. Â Ok….I would ask myself….”How do I tie this into the Bible and our faith? Â And, What hands-on project am I going to do in a 30 minute session?”
Then with my trusty computer in hand, I searched the internet for the meaning of colors and then verses in the Bible for each color. Â The only one I knew at that time was in the book of Genesis mentioning the Rainbow.
That showed me the colors I am going to work with, meanings, and connection to the Bible and our faith. Â What am I going to do for a hands-on project (remember in 30min). The stipulation was to use all the colors in the Rainbow.
I toyed with Rainbow? Â A Cross? Â None of these seemed to really fit what I was trying to achieve. Â Then I was in Mass on Sunday and suddenly a picture came into mind of a meadow, blue sky, sun, clouds, and crosses (image above). Â So I completed the sample and decided that I am not going to show them this until the very end. Â I will do one with them to illustrate where I want them to place the color.
The Holy Spirit really helped me in putting this together! Â I wish I was an attendee rather than a presenter to enjoy it, however, I will enjoy presenting it as well!

Beginning of Papa’s Door
I’m starting a new quilt which will hopefully accepted into a National Quilt Show (s) this year.
I’ll share the story behind the quilt when I finish. Â This blog is to show you my process and my thinking.
Papa’s Door will be a painted whole cloth art quilt. Â I started with a traced image as my usual process and added the squares around it to resemble Italian tiles. Â The original photo was a plain stucco wall. Â To add interest to the quilt, I decided to add the “tile” look. Â Frixion pens are my favorite fabric marking tools. Â They stay on for as long as you want, thin line is formed, and iron off easily. Â I have found that on dark fabric the pen leaves a white line which can be removed with laundry soap quite easily.
I started painting the squares (tiles). Â It took me two days with a total of about 10 hours to finish painting the tiles. Â Very peaceful and relaxing to do!
In the bottom right of this photo, you can see that I ironed some of the marks away. Â The bottom photo shows more lines being removed.
I am still working on the painting part of the fabric, so I was afraid to iron more of the lines and have my lines disappear!! Â YIKES!!!
I don’t know if this technique is out there, but I love doing it! Â I would love to read your comments!
Buffalo Scene
I am starting a new adventure of exploring the amazing Buffalo/Niagara Region. Â I have lived here my entire life so far and wanted to capture some of it’s past, present, and future views by using my art. Â I am enjoying taking trips with my husband to take photos. Â We usually have an area we photograph. Â Â This will be my first series which will continue to grow over the years. Â I intend to show and sell them at an exhibit next year.
This is the first one I am doing. Â It will be called Michigan Street Lift Bridges. I’m not very far on it as of this point, however, by the end of this week, I hope to complete it and move onto my next one!
I would love to hear what you think of my idea and if you have any favorite areas I can visit and take photos at.
