The Process!

Hi! Thank you for viewing my art process! Each piece is an original piece of art created by myself.

The Zentangle inspired art pieces are created with a blank white piece of fabric. Temporary lines are drawn as the base of my art planning. Then I free-hand everything else with black ink and add color with ink or paint.

Once the ink and color are done, I add cotton batting and quilt the piece, sew a fabric border and staple it to a stretched canvas frame.

The photo quilts start with a photo that I have taken of scenes around our Buffalo, NY area. I create my pattern by tracing the colors, shades, and shapes on the picture, enlarge it to the size I want. Using this paper pattern, I cut the big shapes out of fabric and glue each piece on, then sew around each piece to secure the fabric to the base of the quilt.

Then the fun part comes! Painting brings out the specific color that I want as well as the fine details that I cannot achieve with fabric. Lastly, each piece is quilted, sewn fabric border, and stapled onto the stretched canvas frame.

Little known fact……My dad was an upholsterer and he taught me some of the upholstery skills like using a staple gun that I still use today!

My pocket hugs started in January 2021 during the Pandemic. I saw that other people were making this same basic idea of showing someone you care by sending them a token they can touch and hold.

Mine turned out to also include words of positivity and gratitude as well as the Zentangle inspired artwork I draw on each one. Some of these photos show the temporary registration marks that I place on the fabric to guide me. These marks are removed.

Below are more photos and videos of me creating my pieces. Enjoy each one, and thank you again for viewing my work! Please leave a comment and tell me your thoughts!

Part of my drawing process! If only I could draw this fast in real time!

Thank you once again for viewing all of the photos and videos. If you have any questions about my work and/or would like to purchase a piece or have a custom piece made, please contact me.

Emotions

We are all in the same boat with this novel virus. Today, my emotions are getting the best of me. I want to share with you how I handle emotional days. (Not that I’m an expert)

To date I have made about 600 masks. Some are donated and some are sold. Some of you have donated extra money which I have contributed to Buffalo Resilience ($380).

As I work on the masks, I am praying for the health of the people who will be wearing them, all of the essential employees, first responders, and any people who have contracted the virus. These are heavy days for all of us.

So, I find my happiness comes from my art quilting. I am making little art pieces (which are for sale). Today I’m going to continue on a piece to help me get focused again.

Elephant

I have to find about one hour per day to do my art which will bring me peace. Some days it may be half of the day or all day just to give myself some peace and happiness.❤️

If you find that you are struggling emotionally in these times, do something that makes you happy for a portion of the day! Please share with me what makes you happy!

Above are a couple of art pieces I have done. Please contact me if you would like to purchase them.

Until next time, stay safe and healthy.

Peace.

What’s Happening!

Happy New Year everyone!!!🎊🎉

I’ve been working on the wedding quilt for my son and daughter-in-law over the past couple of weeks. I’m happy to say……I’m almost done with it!!!

I used a cotton and wool batting for the first time and I like the results. I did learn that I probably needed to pin baste closer together to avoid fabric shifting (like every 2-3” would have been perfect). It turned out nice and has a good weight to it! It will keep them warm for those winter nights!

I’ll be finishing it this weekend by squaring it up and binding.

That’s what’s happening! Thank you for reading my blog. I will be doing some quilt tutorial blogs in the near future. Please tell me if there’s anything you’d like to see!

Have a wonderful day!

Guild Competition!

This week I’m starting on a challenge that is through one of my Quilt Guilds. Their challenge is to choose an envelope that had two crayons (I did not know what colors I was choosing). Create a quilt using these two colors and add up to four more colors.

I received BLUE and BLUE/GREEN.

I came up with drawing rings on white fabric, add designs in the rings, painting the fabric with the colors.

And the following photos are my process thus far. Quilting will begin tomorrow. It’s due December 4 at our Christmas party.

Enjoy the photos!

Teaching Engagements

This week is a busy and exciting one for me!

Monday, April 3, I will be holding my last class for a very successful T-shirt quilt class at Sweet Home School’s Community Education.  I will be doing more classes, and will post when those are!!

Tuesday, April 4, at 6:30pm I will be doing a hands-on presentation on The Meaning of Color at the Newman Center on Skinnerville Road.  I’ll be talking about how colors effect our mood, spiritual meaning of colors, and bible references of the colors. We will be painting, so if you come, please wear a smock.

Wednesday, April 5, 6:30pm I will be at the Twin City Quilt Guild presenting my Trunk Show.  I am excited to tell my quilt journey and share my quilts!

Tuesday and Wednesday are at no cost to you. Please come and join these presentations! I would love to see you!

Power Outage

Yesterday with the high winds and power outage around Western New York (our house being effected as well), I could not do the sewing that I wanted to do on my Papa’s Door quilt.  So I started painting a class that I will be scheduled to do at Carriage Quilt Shop hopefully in April!

The power was off for about 4 hours and this is how far I got.  It will be mounted onto a stretched canvas and some of the flower pedals will hang off adding interest.  This weekend, I will finish painting it and writing the directions.  I will be presenting this to them in a couple of weeks.

I’m very excited to start teaching again!
